Take a sip. Focus in.
A best-of-both-worlds functional beverage combining kombucha and flash-chilled coffee.
Kukicha (茎茶) is the mineral rich stems and twigs of the green tea plant (Camellia sinensis), harvested after three growing seasons. It was favored among the tea-pickers themselves. Roasting the kukicha further reduces the caffeine content and increases a meditative state. It was the effects of the tea itself which, in 1949, led Yajiro Sakato at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Kyoto to discover L-theanine.
This non-protein amino acid increases alpha brain wave activity, the same brain waves that are activated during meditation– influencing creativity, and enhancing overall well-being. L-theanine promotes relaxation and focus, and scientific studies have noted an improved ability to handle psychological stress, an improvement in ADHD symptoms, and a lessening of feelings of anxiety.

So, why blend an ultra-low caffeine tea with coffee?
What benefits can be gained by taking an L-theanine rich tea and combining it with a locally-roasted coffee? If the scientific studies are any indication, by combining the two, we are capitalizing on the functional properties of each. You get the meditative qualities of the tea blended with the alertness and energizing effects of coffee.
Alert and aware, calm and capable – this brew highlights these functional benefits. Complex notes of roasted grains, coffee-like with a well-balanced acidity, this mineral-rich brew helps improve focus with none of the jitters, rush, or crash you may experience from caffeine. “L-theanine has been proved to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier, after the ingestion from 30 min up to 5 [hours], providing the efficacy of L-theanine to perform its role in regulating mental health and neurotransmitters.” It has been shown to heighten concentration and enable task completion.
Here is a unique blend of roasted aromas, mildly astringent, notes of apricot and cherry, a mineral sweetness with crisp acidity. Each aspect of the tea and coffee come together to form a fully functional and beneficial beverage– all the goodness of our real, living, fermented kombucha with a kick in the pants from our friends at Denim Coffee (pictured, Matt Ramsay).
You’ve got all the time in the world. There is only the task at hand.
Take a sip. Focus in.
