How much caffeine is in my kombucha?

A question we often hear in the Taproom is, “how much caffeine is in kombucha?”

Realizing that there are variances from batch to batch, generally our kombucha flavors range from 30-50 mg per 12 oz serving. For comparison, a 12 oz cup of regular coffee contains approximately 140 mg of caffeine.

How do we know this?

We’ve had a number of our brews tested by Dr. John Richardson, our resident chemist! He is a professor at Shippensburg University, pioneering the way in kombucha research for brewers around the globe through his classrooms and his company, Cultured Analysis.

One of the most brilliant minds studying this intricate matrix of microbes is right here, alongside of us, helping us continually refine and expand our own processes. We are so honored!

Fun Fact: If you’re sensitive to caffeine, water kefir is an excellent option! Water kefir is not tea-based, so there is no caffeine.
