Climbing Everest

Schisandra was favored among the tribal people of Siberia and China as a curative against altitude sickness, to aid on long hunts and expeditions, and to improve night vision.

One of the most powerful adaptogens, schisandra has an impressive record of medical study to support its beneficial claims.

Adaptogens mimic stress in a controlled way that helps the body and mind handle actual stress. Imagine a gymnasium of stress, a practice session that enables higher performance come gametime, helping you handle stress and depression, burnout and fatigue; granting you stamina, endurance, and balance. They raise your baseline so your levels of stress aren’t quite so high, and your responses to stress aren’t so low.
In order to extract the maximum benefit from the schisandra berries, we made an in-house decoction.

As we further our knowledge and understanding of herbalism, we have learned that there is a vast difference in functionality between a pleasant cup of herbal tea and a decoction which uses a much greater amount of the herb and a longer duration at temperature.

During decoction, we start with cold water, and bring to a gentle simmer, which breaks down the cell wall. This brings forth compounds which are otherwise unused and ultimately discarded. It can be seen as the basis of medicinal herbs. Before alcohol extractions and tinctures were available, there was the water extraction, going back to ancient times.

With decoctions, we are enhancing the supportive aspects of our ferments, be they kombucha or kefir, that many of us could benefit from. Consider these elements an addition to the probiotics, enzymes, and vitamins of our living ferments.

Whether you’re facing Mount Everest or a proverbial “mountain” we raise a glass to you in support of the journey!
